Dental veneers are a very strong, tooth-colored covering that is adhered to the front surfaces of the teeth. Veneers are often used to correct cosmetic damage like chips, cracks, gaps between teeth, teeth that appear too small, uneven or worn tooth edges, and staining that doesn’t respond to teeth whitening. Veneers are custom made using state-of-the-art technology and materials that can be custom-tinted to match your own teeth for a completely natural-looking result.
Veneers usually require two office visits. During the first visit, a very small amount of material will be removed from the surface of the tooth to make room for the veneer so its surface is even with the teeth on either side of it. An impression will be made of the tooth and sent to the lab where the veneer will be created. A temporary veneer may be placed over the tooth during the first appointment to protect it while the permanent veneer is being crafted. During the second visit, the temporary veneer will be removed and the tooth will be carefully cleaned. We will then place the permanent veneer which will be applied using a strong bonding agent. Next, it will be gently buffed to ensure it fits comfortably and to smooth the edges. Lastly, your bite will be adjusted so the teeth pressure will be distributed as evenly as possible across the new surfaces.
No, the amount of tooth material removed to accommodate a veneer is very small, and it’s replaced with the strong ceramic veneer so the tooth can actually become strengthened. Plus, when a veneer is used to correct a crack or chip, it can also help strengthen the tooth by providing a better bond where the damage has occurred.
Today’s dental veneers are very durable and can last 10 years or longer with proper care. Come give Smile Hub Dental a call if you have any unique questions and we’ll be happy to answer you to the best of our abilities.
